Own a Home in one Year With your Bad Credit.
Do you have bad credit? Buying a home can improve your credit and your worth. Follow these steps to improve your credit and get into the home of your dreams.
1. Be Realistic Do not try to do much at one time. Set realistic goals, if your credit is bad now and you can not get approved for a loan or you want a lower interest rate write down a reasonable plan. Writing down your goals can help you achieve them and also remember them. Start off with a 12 month time frame.
2. Know where you stand. Get a copy of your credit report. Try to get it from all 3 major credit companies. We have written many articles on how to get a free credit report you can start buy getting one at the top of the page. Find out where your credit stands, how the bad credit started and the most recent bad credit items on your credit. You can get a fha loan if you do not have recent credit issues. So start trying to get rid of these items first.
3. Dispute Negative items that do not match. Many Americans have false items on their credit report. Get your credit report and any negative or false items need to be disputed. We have created Free credit dispute forms and the address of the major credit companies free of charge.
4. Check your credit monthly The credit companies are very good about getting back to you. This process is long but they will send your credit results back to you in about 45 days and let you know of any changes. Get the new results and dispute any other negative items. Work on this monthly until you have no more false information on file.
5. Contact your creditors. Your credit report will have bad credit contact information on file. If you do not know where the creditor is you can request this information from the credit companies. They will send you a list of address and phone numbers how to contact your creditors Start with the most recent negative items first then work backwards.
6. Negotiate with your creditors. Contact your creditors and try to reach a settlement with them. Sometimes on old debts or unwanted debts the creditors are eager to settle. Contact them and see if they are willing to settle. Sometimes you can get pennies on the dollar when negotiating with them. Then contact the credit companies and let them know the debt has been settled. And make sure you get something in writing or record it over the phone if you negotiate a deal. This will insure everyone that the debt is clearly settled.
7. Follow up. Repeat steps 1 through 6 monthly for an entire year and this should bring your credit score up. Also this shows loan officers and companies you are willing to clean up your credit. This should also make you more credit worthy. Remember always ask questions the credit companies are middle men and they will help both sides and have a lot of free information to you. Do not pay someone to fix your credit, they can not do anything more than you can do. This is what is so great about the credit system.
