Just Say NO!

Posted by: info | November 26, 2006

Unfortunately money has ended many friendships and relationships over the years. It is sad to see family and friends suing each other, fighting or ending all ties for a couple of hundred bucks or less. The sad truth is it does, too many in fact. I have learned not to loan money to people close to me. It results in disappointment more times than not. The people you think you can trust are the worst ones in paying you back. You have to keep asking, calling and even start to bother them about getting your money back, this puts you into a very uncomfortable position. You will be better served having the courage to just say no, when it comes to lending a family or friend money. I have an ex-best friend who borrowed $75 who will no longer talk to me. I really wish I would have just given him the money, at least I would still have him as a best friend. He just tries to avoid me by not answering my calls or not showing up at the places we use to hang out. The only reason I can think of for him not talking with me is he still thinks all I am after is the money. The truth is, I am not even worried about it. How do you think I would be best served pursuing this matter of a good friend? I even had family members live with me and rent a house from me with no luck. It is harder to get money from them than a regular tenant. I always here the same excuses such as I will get it to you this Friday, I am broke right now or just let me have a couple more days. There has even been times where I know they ran into some money and guess what, they did not contact me. They spent the money on something or someone else, almost as if I wasn’t a priority or they didn’t care about paying me back. You can find out who your real friends are when it comes to money. You have someone who trust and cares about you dearly when they loan money to help you out. You have someone who really cares when you loan money that gets paid back as promised or agreed to. So if I can share any advice with you it would be not to lend money to family and friends. You would be better off just giving the money to them or buying them a gift card at a Wal Mart or somewhere like this in which you know the money would go to a good cause in helping them. If someone you care about needs money to pay a bill than pay it for them rather than giving them cash. Even after saying all these horrible things I still deeply care about my friends and family and would do anything to help, but it hurts to see them try an take advantage of me. I see many court shows and hear other people sharing stories about how their family and friends took advantage of them as well. So if you are reading this and are one of the people who borrow or need the money do whatever you can to pay it back. If you have trouble paying it back, most of your family and friends would understand and like for you to stay in touch and pay them whatever you can. Don’t just avoid them for a few dollars. I can almost guarantee there will be a day in time where you will need these people to lean on and offer the support only a true family or friend can offer.
