Facts and Myths of Automobiles

Posted by: info | January 20, 2007

Have you ever heard an old saying or myth that you wanted to know if it was true or not? In this article you will learn the truth about automobile myths. You can drive five mph over the speed limit without getting a ticket. This is a MYTH. A lot of police officers allow drivers to go a few mph over the speed limit due to inaccurate speed odometers. However, they are not required to allow the five mph rule so be warned. My wife was ticketed for going 54 mph in a 50 mph speed zone. Now this it very nit picky on a HWY. I could understand writing a ticket for going 4 mph over in a school zone or construction area but not a HWY. Either case drivers should be very careful and follow all speed limits to avoid tickets.

You don’t have to use your blinker to switch lanes with no cars around. This is a MYTH! You have to use your blinker in order to change lanes no matter what situation. This law is broken frequently all across the USA. This problem seems to be getting worse as time moves on. Drivers are to lazy or don’t care to use their blinkers. Drivers may think they don’t need to use their blinkers because nobody else does. It is sad but true that more people break this law than abide by it.
You should leave your car running when adding water or coolant to an over heating engine. This statement is a FACT! If you add cold water to a hot engine it may crack your motors heads or other metal parts inside the engine. Always wait for your engine to cool down before adding water after it has over heated.

Low air in your tires handles better on ice. This is a MYTH! I can’t think of one tire maker who recommends lowering air pressure below normal levels for any reason. Tires that are not properly inflatted are not safe and can blow at any given second. Also your gas mileage can be impacted by improper inflation.
