How to file a Dispute or Error on your Credit Report

Posted by: info | March 29, 2007

In today’s world, almost everything revolves around credit reports and history. Some feel that our country puts too much emphasis on credit. If you are buying a home, car, boat, ATV or any vehicle for that matter, your credit report will be checked. Your credit may also be checked for renting or leasing any of these items as well. Before you buy auto, homeowners or life insurance your credit history decides how much you pay. Your monthly bills even get impacted. Your interest rates, and even some employers are now viewing the reports before hiring an applicant. So, how can you find out where you stand and make sure your report is accurate?

First you will need to check your report. We recommend getting your free credit report from https://www.annualcreditreport.com. You will need to look it over completely and verify all the information is accurate. Look at everything including your name, address, employment, purchases and all other items. Did you find something wrong?

Now, you can go to our credit dispute center and get a free printable credit dispute form. Here you can also get the names and addresses of the credit bureaus to send in any negative or out-dated information. Also you will find out how to add accounts not listed in your file.

You will need to send a dispute form to each bureau who has negative information on your file. Take each reporting center on a case by case basis. So if the information is wrong on all three files, you will need to send a dispute to all three companies and so forth. Once they have the information of any errors they have to investigate it. If they find any errors during the investigation they will update it and send you the results.

Finally, you should always keep accurate records of any disputes you filed and the dates you had your credit checked as well. This will be good information if these errors some how come back up or don’t get done proper. Removing negative items can raise your credit score. By checking your report on an annual basis you keep it more accurate and have a better chance of catching any fraudulent activities before they occur.
