Credit Repair

Posted by: info | May 4, 2007

Is there such a thing as credit repair? Can it help or fix your credit report? These are questions we get asked on a daily basis. There are many offers and promotions from companies offering to improve your credit score or history for a fee.

In fact a lot of companies claiming to improve credit go out of business within one year. They may have good intentions, but they are dealing with the same daily problems all Americans have, who are looking to improve their credit report. This process takes time and a lot of dedication.

Usually credit repair companies have you sign a power of attorney to get access to your credit report. From there they try and dispute negative items on your report by sending out a letter to one or all of the major credit bureaus. The credit bureaus then open up an investigation and remove items in which they can’t verify as being accurate.

Once the credit repair companies get the results of the investigation back, they then open up a new one. They continue to dispute items from your credit report hoping that the companies with negative items on your report don’t respond. Therefore, the credit bureaus will drop this information off your report.

These companies keep repeating the process until your overall credit report improves. If you choose to go with a credit repair company, you will most likely have to make several trips to the office and continue to provide signatures and reports. The items they remove can be easily done by you instead.

Check out our credit dispute forms. Here you can find the names and addresses of the three major credit bureaus. The forms are free, and best of all, you are now equipped with the same information the pros use to improve credit scores.
