Auto Insurance and Criminal History?
Posted by: info | June 28, 2007
What does auto insurance and criminal history have in common? More and more auto insurance companies are requesting this information while providing quotes for auto insurance. Criminal history may become a larger factor as time goes on. For now many insurance companies don’t increase your rates for your past. A driver should be able to see why insurance companies are very interested in past criminal history.
Increasing rates for a bad criminal history makes a lot more sense than raising rates for credit reports, location and marriage. If a person has a criminal history in fraud, theft and other violent crimes, they would be more likely to fraud the insurance company. However, a criminal history that is not related might not be such a risk, even though these drivers will most likely still see increased rates.
Don’t be surprised if you are asked about your past criminal history when filling out your next auto insurance quote. As more companies are using this information to determine the cost of an auto insurance policy.
