Auto Insurance in the USA

Posted by: info | July 18, 2007

Do you think we have tough auto insurance laws here in the USA? Compare the laws here to the laws in other countries and you will find that America is very lenient. In Mexico, an accident has to be paid before you can leave the scene. If you can’t pay for the damages, you will go straight to jail.

A lot of Americans travel to Mexico and decide to rent a vehicle each year. As a tourist, you can purchase or decline insurance coverage. Sometimes the insurance cost almost as much as the rental does. However, you don’t want to go to jail in Mexico. The locals say it is horrible. I wouldn’t dare want to find out if they are wrong and test it. So include the insurance coverage before purchasing the rental. If you can’t afford the extra cost take a taxi or bus. They have good public transportation at the popular tourist destinations.

I don’t know all the laws in every country. However, I do know that there are countries with a lot stiffer penalties than America. You need to get familiar with the local laws if you decide to drive. Some countries may not have laws and fairness that Americans have grown accustomed to. Going to jail in another country could get very scary. Don’t drive anywhere without protection.
