Intense Heat and Vehicles.

Posted by: info | August 2, 2007

Summer brings a lot of heat which can put stress on a vehicle. Doing proper maintenance can extend your vehicles life. The best part about summer maintenance is the cost. Maintaining your vehicle in the summer really doesn’t cost a lot of money and can prevent a break down. Here is a partial list of the items each driver should check to prevent common heat related break downs.

  1. Battery - Check and inspect your battery. Clean the post and check the terminals and cables for rust and corrosion if you are able. This is also a good time to check the water level in the battery as well.
  2. Radiator - Have the radiator flushed and filled with the proper amount of fluids. Check for leaks in hoses. If your radiator overheats stop if possible. Running on an overheated engine can cause serious damages. Never put cold water on an engine that is hot and not running. Never open the radiator cap while hot. Hire a mechanic to run and check all test. A radiator can destroy a vehicle.
  3. Filters - Check and replace air, oil and fuel filters of needed. Check with your mechanic or dealer to find out recommended replacement of these filters.
  4. Tires - Have your tires inspected and rotated. Check the air pressure on a regular basis to prevent blowouts and save on gas. Have an authorized tire dealer to check your tread and alignment is set correctly.
  5. Tune-up - Get a complete tune-up if you haven’t done so recently. A tune-up can increase your cars overall performance and fuel efficiency.

Never do any maintenance on a vehicle if you are not qualified. Have your dealer or mechanic preform routine test and required maintenance as recommended by your vehicle’s manufacture.
