Road Rage

Posted by: info | September 17, 2007

Road rage is a growing problem in almost everywhere in the country. Road rage is a sudden violent anger sparked by one or more drivers in a vehicle. Road rage can be started by a mistake, accident, erratic driving behavior or pretty much nothing. Road rage incidents can lead to fights, accidents or can even become fatal.

At this gas station today I witnessed one of the most dramatic cases of road rage I have ever heard of. There was a driver who was leaving the gas pump to exit the gas station. As the driver was leaving another vehicle was speeding into the station and driving erratic and made a sudden stop to avoid an accident. The driver who was leaving the store wasn’t doing anything out of the norm. The incoming driver slammed on his brakes, laid on the horn for at least a minute and started cursing out his window. Then he decided to make a big mistake.

He jumped out the car and continued to curse the other driver trying to start something for no reason. Unfortunately for him, the driver of the other vehicle was more than happy to accomodate him. The other driver couldn’t take it any longer and jumped out of his vehicle and marched over to the road rage causing driver and told him to shut up. The speeding driver all of the sudden took a swing and hit the driver. This driver had a good chin and wiped of his chin and said “not good enough”.

He reached back and decked the outrageous driver and knocked him out in one punch. This man was laid out. He woke up almost instantly and started at it again, I went over and try to calm them down. I couldn’t believe this guy. After talking with them and cooling them down the police arrived on the scene. The police offered to call in an ambulance for the guy who must of had a broke nose. He refused and started to yell and scream. The police officer had to handcuff this guy in order to get a hold of the situation.

The police office took the statements of both men, the other guy’s girlfriend, a witness and me. I told the office everything I had seen. The office decided to take the man who stated the whole mess to jail. The police go the entire situation correct and they let the guy who knocked the guy out free. After all of this, I just hoped the guy starting all the rage will learn a lesson.

This is just a classic case of how bad road rage has become. If you look at someone wrong, make a small mistake, cut someone off, fail to use a blinker you can start some road rage. Some people are so bad they will try to fight somebody who stalls at a red light. This is a big problem and I am campaigning for the government to consider road rage of any sort as a felony.

The dangers of road rage are very real. People with bad tempers will try to run somebody off the road, get out and fight them and sometimes shoot at a driver. You really don’t know what and who is capable of doing what these days. How can you prevent or avoid road rage?

Road rage sometimes can’t be avoided. However, there are some ways a driver can do to prevent most cases. If you experience somebody honking, pointing, cursing, yelling or advancing towards you, it is in your best interest to try and avoid it. If possible, try and ignore the situation, maybe you can wave or apologize for an error in which you made, try to avoid eye contact and get away from an irate driver. Will you be considered a coward?

Who cares? This is about your safety. You will not know if the drivers has a gun or what he is capable of. If you can’t avoid the situation, you should call the police and try to get to a safe place immediately. Sometimes a public place, fire station, police station can be safe places. I know it is hard to back down or leave when you did nothing wrong. Consider this a good smart act. There are thousands of cases or road rage each day and they seem to be getting much more violent.
