What is a Home Insurance Premium?

In our effort to help you understand your bills. We want this topic to be about home insurance premiums. What is it, how to save and understand how to get the best deal and educate yourself about home insurance.

1. What is a home insurance premium. The estimated price an insurance company charges for coverage, based on the frequency and cost of potential accidents, theft, natural disater potential and all other losses. Prices may vary from company to company, as with any type of insurance service.

2. Ask for higher deductibles. Your deductible is the amount you agree to accept before the insurance company will start paying on a claim. With the cost of homeowner's insurance rising, it no longer makes sense to an insurance company to assume all the risk. For example, increasing your deductible from $200 to $500 or $1,000 on your home insurance coverage coverage could reduce your premium by as much as 30 percent — potentially saving you hundreds of dollars. In most cases rasing your deductables means lower premiums.

3. Pay your policy upfront. Sometimes paying your policy upfront will save you money. It never hurts to ask. Save up for the year upfront and pay your premium in full. If your
credit is bad this could raise your premium but by paying in full this might lower you from being a high risk consumer.

4. Mention all the safety features in your area. Inform the insurance company about home security system, dead bolt locks, fire alarms, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your house. If you live by a fire hydrant or if you live close to a police or fire station this may also help.

5. Ask about discounts for home and auto insurance combined. Most companies will also you a reduced premium if you combine your home and auto insurance together.
